1 Gulden Utrecht 1764
A silver gulden from 1764, minted in the province of Utrecht, is one of the classic provincial issues of the eighteenth century. This coin clearly bears the hallmarks of Utrecht's coinage tradition. The obverse depicts the coat of arms of Utrecht, simple yet recognizable, accompanied by traditional Latin inscriptions emphasizing the province's sovereignty. The year 1764 marks a period when the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands was still fully functioning, and each province used its own mint mark and minting style. This guilder therefore serves as a tangible reminder of regional autonomy within the old Dutch coinage system.
